Inkblots 9 at 79: Celebrating nine years of the fellowship of the pen.

On its 79th year, The Varsitarian, the official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas, will hold the ninth Inkblots: the 2007 UST National Campus Journalism Fellowship on October 22-24 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex and the AMV-College of Accountancy Building.

The fellowship will consist of seminars on news writing, sports writing, investigative reporting, feature writing, culture and lifestyle writing, and Filipino journalism.

There will be parallel sessions on column writing, writing for broadcast, cartooning, and photojournalism. Plenary sessions on journalism ethics and campus paper management will also be included, with a bonus news writing workshop added this year.

The fellowship is open to all student writers, campus press advisers, high school journalism instructors, and school officials.

Seasoned lecturers and media practitioners invited include Rodrigo “Jiggy” Manicad (host, Reporter’s Notebook, GMA 7), Ruel de Vera (associate editor, Sunday Inquirer Magazine), Quinito Henson (sports columnist, Philippine Star), Howie Severino (host, Sine Totoo, GMA 7), and Alice Colet-Villadolid (former Philippine Press Institute Executive Director), among others.

Fellows will be charged with a Php1,200 registration fee inclusive of workshop kit, supplementary materials, lunch, snacks, and an Inkblots 2007 bag and shirt.

Registration is ongoing. Pre-registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited slots. Registration for UST students starts on September 24, 2007.

Essayists, Fictionists, and Poets
in
English and Filipino
are invited to join the

22nd Ustetika Awards
the Varsitarian’s annual awards for literature.

The Ustetika Awards is
the foremost literary contest in the University
and the
longest running campus literary derby in the country.

It was set into motion in 1984 by the Varsitarian, which is the only student paper to merit an entry in CCP Encyclopedia of the Arts for having produced top literary artists in the country. In 1991, the Ustetika revived the Rector’s Literary Award. This is given to any of the first-place winners in any category that best reflects the Christian values upheld by the University.

Thomasians who won in the contest are now prominent and successful in the field of creative writing.
Be part of the tradition. Join now.

Contest Rules:

Only college (post and undergraduate) students of the University of Santo Tomas who have enrolled for the school year 2006-2007 may participate.

Winners of national and/or international literary competitions may no longer participate in the contest.

The competition has two (2) divisions, English and Filipino, and has the following categories: Poetry/Tula, Fiction/Katha, and Essay/Sanaysay.

No definite length is required. However, a poetry entry must be composed of no less than five (5) poems. A collective title for the poems is optional.

Participants should use pen names in their manuscripts. The real name of the writer or any identifying marks should not be found anywhere except in the accompanying entry forms.

The publications of the different faculties/colleges of the University may submit entries under the publication’s name. However, only one (1) writer should have authorship for every entry.

Previously published entries inside and outside the university, will not be accepted.

Only one (1) entry per category is allowed. However, the writer may join in as many categories as he wishes provided that the entries are placed in separate envelopes.

Entries must be submitted in five (4) hard copies, including the original. They must be computerized (MS Word file; font: Arial; font-size: 12; double-spaced), printed on short bond paper, and placed inside a brown envelope. A clean diskette where the manuscripts have been encoded, a well-accomplished entry form, and a certification of originality signed by two (2) English and/or Filipino instructors, and a photocopy of the writer’s registration form must accompany the entries (a certification clause is provided at the lower part of the entry form).

Entries must be submitted to the Varsitarian office, Rm. 112, UST Main Building , on or before November 11, 2006, Saturday, before 6 P.M.

The winners will receive medals, plaques, certificates, and/or cash prizes.

All decisions reached by the judges are final. The judges reserve the right not to declare winners should the entries not measure up to their standards.

Manuscripts remain the property of the writers but the Varsitarian has the right to publish winning entries without seeking the consent of the writers.

panawagan sa kontribusyon [Jan. 16th, 2003|03:50 am]
The Varsitarian
bananananaman

maraming salamat!

p.s.
me friendster nga pala kami (kanto_zin@yahoo.com, first name:kanto second name: zine)

p.p.s.
tanong ko lang din sana kung mayroon bang nakaaalam kung panong kontakin si miss lilia cuntapay, isang matandang staple ng mga horror movies buhat pa noong nakaraang dekada, salamat!
